September 2010

Hello PV MOMS!

Ahhh...Back to school! With my son Nathan only entering his second year of preschool, it's the first time I can say that. Don't get me wrong, I have loved spending the summer months with both my children at home - we created some really fun memories at MOMS Club events and as a family. But, it has challenged me as stay at home mother to come up with fun and creative activities to occupy his developing mind and tire his energetic body. So, it is a bittersweet time for us as he now begins a 3-day a week program at preschool. I will appreciate a little more quiet time in my day, but have to also accept that another summer has passed by and my children are getting so big so fast.

Another fun event for us in September is an adults only vacation!! My husband and I are headed to Cabo San Lucas for 5 days while the world's best Grandma moves in to care for my two children. I cannot wait for the opportunity to spend some time getting to know my husband again. I'll never forget the advice I was once given - "The biggest parenting mistake you can make is to not take time for your marriage." I keep reminding myself of this advice as the guilty thoughts enter my mind about leaving my children home. It really is important to make sure that we take time to build our relationships with our spouses. I know I spend hours reading parenting books and magazines and planning special outings with my children, but I spend mere minutes catching up with my husband each night between serving food, doing dishes, bath time, story time and tucking in. At that point, I'm too exhausted to even hold a conversation. So, I will heed the advice I was given and make time for my marriage as part of my quest to be a good mom. I may even have a margarita while I'm at it.

Yours,

Lori Domeracki
